The Illinois men's tennis team has chosen to compete in Knoxville, Tennessee, for the 2025 ITA Kickoff Weekend. The decision was made during the 18th pick of the ITA Kickoff Weekend Draft. The event is scheduled for January 25-26, where the No. 4-seeded Fighting Illini will face top-seeded Tennessee in their opening match. The other teams in this four-team region include No. 2 Auburn and No. 3 Michigan.
The draft process allows teams to select their preferred playing sites based on factors such as travel, opponents, and facilities. There are 14 host sites determined by the end-of-year rankings from 2024. Teams then choose a seed and location until all spots are filled.
This year's field includes 58 teams competing across these host sites for a chance to participate in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship at Baylor and SMU campuses. Each team is guaranteed two matches during the weekend, although it follows a single-elimination format.
The list of host sites ranked by end-of-year standings includes TCU, Texas, Ohio State, Virginia, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Columbia, Arizona, Florida State, Oklahoma, Harvard, Mississippi State, and Duke.
Illinois has previously won the ITA National Team Indoor Championship twice consecutively in 2003 and 2004.
