Fighting Illini men's tennis is set to host Northwestern and Saint Louis University on April 13 at the Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Illinois. The matches are scheduled for 12 p.m. CT against Northwestern and 5 p.m. CT against Saint Louis.
Illinois holds a strong historical record against its in-state rival, Northwestern, with an overall tally of 72-39-2 since their first encounter on May 19, 1905. Under head coach Brad Dancer's leadership, the team has only lost twice to the Wildcats—once in 2016 and again in 2023—with an impressive scoring margin of 118-39 during his tenure.
In contrast, Illinois has faced Saint Louis University only three times but maintains a perfect record of 3-0. Their first meeting was on April 18, 1958, when Illinois secured a decisive victory with a score of 6-0 in St. Louis.
Northwestern recently split their conference matches by defeating Wisconsin with a score of 5-2 but falling to Nebraska with a score of 6-1. Meanwhile, SLU comes off a narrow home win over Butler (4-3) and followed it up by defeating Duquesne (4-2) at a neutral site match held in Dayton, Ohio.
