Illinois men's tennis player Karlis Ozolins has progressed to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Tournament. Ozolins, a junior, secured his place after defeating Florida State's Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc with scores of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Oklahoma State University.

This achievement marks the first time since 2021 that an Illinois player has reached this stage. The last occurrence was when professional tennis player Aleks Kovacevic defeated Alexis Galarneau with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.

After losing the first set, Ozolins rallied in the second set and did not allow Cornut-Chauvinc to score until the second game. He maintained control throughout and kept his opponent within one point for the remainder of the match.

Ozolins is scheduled to play against either SMU's Trevor Svajda or Arizona State's Murphy Cassone on Wednesday. The exact time will be announced later on Tuesday night.

Additionally, Ozolins will team up with doubles partner Hunter Heck for a match against Notre Dame's Sebastian Dominko and Jean-Marc Malkowski in the Round of 32 of the NCAA Doubles Tournament at 7 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
