The Illinois women's gymnastics team, ranked No. 23, secured second place in a competition held at the Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio. Competing against No. 15 Ohio State, Kent State, and Bowling Green, Illinois achieved a score of 196.325.

Ohio State led the event with a score of 196.825, followed by Kent State at 196.125 and Bowling Green at 194.275.

"We had some bright moments tonight," said head coach Nadalie Walsh. "The vault team did great and had controlled landings. Kaitlyn Ewald tied her career high on floor with her rock solid routine and Mia Townes owned the floor."

Townes excelled on the vault with a winning score of 9.875 for her first vault event win this season. Lyden Saltness and Mia Takekawa shared the bars title with scores of 9.900 each.

On beam, Ewald matched her career high with a score of 9.850, leading Illinois in that event as well.

The Illini will quickly return to competition as they host Bowling Green on Sunday at Huff Hall for the Women Empowerment meet.
