Illinois women's tennis competes at ITA Midwest Regional

The Illinois women's tennis team participated in the ITA Midwest Regional held in Columbus, Ohio, from October 10 to 14. The event saw all eight student-athletes from Illinois competing in various singles and doubles matches.

In the singles qualifying draw, Ariel Madatali and Rosie Seccia represented Illinois. Both players advanced past their first-round opponents with victories over Kirstin Hailey of Bradley and Katerine Bellia of Notre Dame, respectively. However, Seccia was defeated by Ava Bruno from Michigan in the second round, while Madatali continued her winning streak against Sydney Stone of Valparaiso.

In the main singles draw on October 11, McKenna Schaefbauer achieved a win against Audrey Moutama from Toledo. Megan Heuser also secured a victory over Lana Caculovic of Illinois State. Ariel Madatali had an impressive performance by defeating Taylor Cataldi from Wisconsin. Other players like Violeta Martinez, Alice Xu, Kida Ferrari, and Kasia Treiber faced defeats against their respective opponents.

The doubles competition featured several Illini pairs including No. 9 ranked duo Megan Heuser and Alice Xu who received a first-round bye along with Violeta Martinez and Kida Ferrari. On October 12, Schaefbauer and Treiber overcame Erika Dimitriev and Nataly Miroslavova Ninova from Northern Illinois.

On October 13 in the singles main draw quarterfinals, McKenna Schaefbauer was defeated by Audrey Spencer of Ohio State. In doubles play that day, Britany Lau and Mika Dagan Fruchtman overcame Heuser and Xu.

Overall, the tournament showcased strong performances from various Illini players despite some challenging matches.
