A group from the University of Illinois Extension and the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences recently visited Springfield for the 2024 Illinois Agriculture Legislative Day. The event aimed to secure bipartisan support for initiatives designed to strengthen agriculture-related measures in Illinois, a state known for its production of soybeans, corn, swine, and various specialty crops.
The Illinois Department of Agriculture organized the day, which featured opening remarks by IDOA Director Jerry Costello II and Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton. Other speakers included Senator Dorris Turner, Senator Win Stoller, Representative Sonya Harper, and Representative Charles Meier. Youth leaders from the 4-H Leadership Team were also present, with remarks from 4-H Leadership Team Chairman Ross Vancil of Henderson County as part of the program.
Participants had opportunities to meet with legislators to discuss efforts by the University of Illinois to support agriculture through its College of ACES and Illinois Extension programs, including 4-H Youth Development.
