Illinois 4-H has appointed Dr. Kevin Carey as the Senior Program Lead for Positive Youth Development. Dr. Carey, a Grundy County native and 4-H alumnus, is currently serving as the Dean of Students for Campus Life at Illinois Wesleyan University.
Dr. Lisa Diaz, assistant dean and director of Illinois 4-H, expressed enthusiasm about Carey's new role: “I am so excited to share that Dr. Kevin Carey is joining Illinois 4-H to serve as the Sr. Program Lead for Positive Youth Development.” She highlighted Carey's leadership journey from his early days in Grundy County to his continued involvement with the organization.
Carey will oversee the positive youth development components across the state, leading a team of specialists in this capacity. His background includes an extensive history with 4-H at local, state, and national levels, including an 11-year membership in the Highland Ag 4-H Club and participation on the IL 4-H Foundation Board.
Reflecting on his experiences with 4-H, Carey stated: "The 4-H organization has always been a part of my life. My local 4-H experience in Grundy County made a critical difference in my learning and growth." He emphasized his commitment to serving youth authentically and advancing opportunities for their development.
Carey holds degrees from Illinois Wesleyan University, Ball State University, and a doctorate from the University of Illinois focusing on Educational Policy, Organization and Leadership with Diversity and Equity concentration.
Illinois 4-H remains a significant force in youth development within Illinois, offering programs across all counties to foster leadership skills among young people.
