4-H Memorial Camp in Monticello, Illinois, has been recognized by Newsweek as one of America's Best Summer Camps for 2024. The camp received a full 5-star rating as it celebrates its 75th anniversary this summer. This recognition highlights the camp's longstanding commitment to providing transformative outdoor experiences for youth.
Newsweek, in partnership with Plant-A Insights Group, evaluated over 15,000 camps nationwide. The selection process involved a survey of 30,000 parents and nearly 700,000 social media reviews, focusing on criteria such as activity offerings, accessibility, staff-to-child ratios, and safety. Among 300 overnight camps reviewed, 4-H Memorial Camp was noted for its exceptional quality and impact.
Kevin Carey, acting 4-H Director at the University of Illinois Extension and senior program lead stated: "We are proud to celebrate the excellence of 4-H Memorial Camp and their staff in this achievement." He emphasized the value that camp experiences bring to youth and families through new friendships and learning opportunities.
Dedicated to Illinois 4-H Members who lost their lives in WWII, the camp has been an integral part of the Monticello community.
