Members of the Youth Leadership Team represented Illinois 4-H at the Agriculture Legislative Day in Springfield on March 13. This event allows farm and agricultural organizations to meet with state senators and representatives.

The team included Ross Vancil from Henderson County, Alex Paul from Wayne County, Amanda Niemann and Emma Hughes from Montgomery County, and Janella Neary from Monroe County. Ross Vancil, as the Youth Leadership Team Chair, delivered opening remarks. He stated, "4-H empowers generations of leaders and change makers who will continue to make a positive difference in our communities and beyond."

The Illinois State 4-H Youth Leadership Team consists of members aged 16-21 who assist with various activities and events statewide. They play roles in planning conferences, assisting with summer academies and fairs, training for public speaking programs, and serving on committees such as the Illinois 4-H Foundation Board of Directors.

Agriculture Legislative Day is an annual spring event. Illinois 4-H is part of the University of Illinois Extension's youth development program under the College of Agriculture, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences. The program aims to empower youth for life today and prepare them for future careers through hands-on learning experiences.

Research shows that participants are more likely to contribute to their communities, make healthier choices, be civically active, and engage in STEM programs.
