The best teenage 4-H shotgun shooters from Illinois convened at Brittany Shooting Park near Bunker Hill on September 23 for a state competition. Seventy participants competed in the event, which drew nearly 250 spectators.

Jakeb Paul from Wayne County secured first place, followed by Nathaniel Kern from Franklin County and Gianni Zanelli from Macoupin County in second and third places respectively. Other top ten finishers included Morgan Tracey, Alex Paul, Lucas Walker, Casey Dugan, Benaiah Bremer, Lily Simpson, and Remington Barnhill.

Sinclair highlighted the presence of recruiters from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale's Agricultural Sciences Department at the event. “I believe that they know Illinois 4-H helps grow great young people full of potential and they know where to find them,” he stated.

County scores were also calculated based on the top four shooters' performances from each county. Piatt County took first place among counties, with Franklin County and Fulton County following in second and third positions.

Illinois Ducks Unlimited provided financial support for this year's event. "We are immensely grateful for the generous support of Illinois Ducks Unlimited," Sinclair expressed. "Their support helps us to empower and support these youth in mastering their lifelong hobby of shooting sports as they enjoy the outdoors."

For more information about participating or supporting future events, interested parties can contact their local Extension Office.
