Illinois women's golf finishes first day at Cavalier Regional Preview

Illinois women's golf team completed the first day of the Cavalier Regional Preview tied for eighth place. The team posted scores of 302 (+18) and 294 (+10) in the first two rounds.

Victoria Zheng led the Illini with rounds of 73 (+2) and 72 (E), finishing tied for 16th. She recorded four birdies over 36 holes and had the sixth lowest scoring average on par 3s (2.90, -1). Zheng also made 27 pars, tying for second most among the field.

Yurang Li is tied for 27th after shooting rounds of 74 (+3) and 73 (+2). Li had a team-high six birdies during the day.

Brielle Mapanao ended the day tied for 33rd, thanks to an even-par second round (71) following her opening round of 78 (+7).

Lexanne Halama is tied for 54th with rounds of 77 (+7) and 78 (+7), while Anna Ritter is tied for 63rd with scores of 81 (+10) and 78 (+7).

North Carolina leads the team standings at 19-under (549), with Inez Ng from North Carolina holding the individual lead at 8-under (134).

The Fighting Illini will continue their play tomorrow, with third-round tee times starting at 7 a.m. CT.
