Illinois to participate in Cavalier Regional Preview for first time

The Fighting Illini are set to compete in the Cavalier Regional Preview at Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville, Virginia. The tournament is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 23, and Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The Cavalier Regional Preview has been an annual event since 2015. Birdwood Golf Course, rated as the No. 7 course in Virginia by Golf Magazine and named "Best in State" by Golf Digest, was established in 1984 and designed by PGA Professional David Love III and Love Golf Design. The course features 18 championship holes, The Nest par-3 course, and the Ridges putting course, which spans nearly an acre. For this event, it will be set up as a par 71 over 6,320 yards.

The tournament format consists of a 54-hole stroke play competition with 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Monday's play will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT, while tee times on Tuesday will start at 7 a.m. CT.

The field includes Illinois alongside Charlotte, Georgetown, Iowa, James Madison, Maryland, NC State, North Carolina, Penn State, Richmond, Tennessee, and Virginia.

The lineup for the Fighting Illini includes:

4. Yurang Li

5. Brielle Mapanao

This marks the first time Illinois has participated in the Cavalier Regional Preview.
