CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini men's golfer Jackson Buchanan has been named to the 2023-24 Academic All-America Men's At-Large Third Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) as of Wednesday, July 17.
This accolade is Buchanan's first CSC Academic All-America selection and marks only the second time an Illini men's golfer has received this honor. The previous recognition went to Adrien Dumont de Chassart, who was named to the second team in 2022-23. This season, Buchanan also earned recognition as an Academic All-Big Ten performer for the second consecutive year and was designated a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Buchanan is pursuing a bachelor's degree in operations management from the Gies College of Business at Illinois. During his junior season in 2023-24, he achieved numerous accolades including being named a third-team GCAA All-American and Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Year. He was also a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection. Competing in all 13 of the team's stroke play events, Buchanan ended the season with the Illini's second-best stroke average of 70.92. He finished as runner-up at the Big Ten Championship and claimed medalist honors at two events—the Purdue Fall Invitational and the Duck Invitational—during the regular season. Overall, Buchanan recorded eight top-10 finishes, tied for the team lead with 12 sub-70 rounds, and ranked second on the squad with 20 rounds of par or better. He concluded as Illinois' top finisher in four events this year, tying for most on the team.
Buchanan joins Illini men's basketball player Marcus Domask as one of two Illini athletes to earn CSC Academic All-America honors in 2023-24; Domask was selected for the Academic All-America first team in April. In total, Buchanan becomes the 113th CSC Academic All-American in Illinois Athletics history.
