Four Illinois women's tennis student-athletes have been named College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District honorees, the association announced on Tuesday.
Fifth-year senior Josie Frazier and junior Kida Ferrari were recognized for the second consecutive year. Junior Megan Heuser and sophomore McKenna Schaefbauer earned their first honors.
In her final season at Illinois, Frazier has earned two degrees from the university. Her bachelor's degree is in accountancy, while she received a master's in accounting science this spring. Ferrari is pursuing a bachelor's degree in strategic business development & entrepreneurship. Heuser is studying interdisciplinary health sciences, and Schaefbauer is majoring in political science.
To be eligible for the award, nominees must have a 3.50 GPA and be at least sophomores academically and athletically. Nominees must also be starters or important reserves on the team and have participated in at least 70 percent of the total matches played by the team that includes team scores.
All four honored Illini were integral to this season's lineup. Schaefbauer had the team's second-most singles wins with a 17-10 record, while Frazier and Ferrari recorded 14 and 13 wins, respectively. Heuser played No. 1 singles all year for Illinois, registering nine victories.
On the doubles courts, Schaefbauer tied for the team lead with 18 wins while Heuser followed closely with 16 victories. Frazier collected 14 doubles wins across the season, and Ferrari had 11.
The quartet of CSC Academic All-District Illini contributed to a successful campaign for Illinois, which finished with a 17-10 team record and placed fourth in the Big Ten after going 8-3.
