The Illinois 4-H Foundation recently celebrated the career achievements of its members by awarding $45,000 in scholarships at the Illinois 4-H Celebration of Excellence. The event took place on April 6 at the Hilton Garden Inn.
"We are thrilled to offer these scholarship opportunities to empower our 4-H youth in pursuing their dreams and broadening their knowledge," said Melissa Irwin, University of Illinois ExtensionIllinois 4-H club support & awards associate.
The scholarships were awarded to up to five Illinois 4-H members in nine focus categories, based on merit and a demonstrated standard of 4-H excellence. Forty-five young adults were chosen as scholarship winners in one of nine divisions of the State 4-H Award. Each winner received a $1,000 scholarship.
In addition to recognizing academic achievement, the awards also highlighted specific areas of interest and accomplishment among the recipients. These areas included Animal Sciences, Civil Engagement & Global Living, Creative & Performing Arts & Communications, Gardening, Ag, and Food Systems, Healthy Living & Nutrition, Leadership, Natural Resources & Environmental Science, Personal Growth and STEM & Robotics.
"These scholarships allow students to continue following their learning pathways for post-secondary education," Irwin explained. "Through their remarkable engagement in 4-H leadership, community service, and project work, they have gained invaluable experiences that will propel them toward success at the next level. We are honored to provide financial support as they embark on their promising journey."
The Illinois 4-H program is a flagship youth development initiative administered through the College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois Extension. It aims to grow true leaders who are prepared for life today and for a career tomorrow.
