The Illinois State Board of Education is currently seeking nominations for the 2024 "Those Who Excel" and "Teacher of the Year" awards. This announcement was made by Rep. Chris Miller in a recent Facebook post. Nominations for these prestigious awards can be submitted until October 15.
According to Central Illinois Proud, the reviewers will carefully consider all applications and select a winner from the pool of finalists. The finalists will include at least 10 regional Teachers of the Year, as well as the Bilingual, Special Education, and Early Childhood Teachers of the Year. Additionally, an Outstanding Early Career Educator with less than five years of teaching experience will also be recognized.
The Illinois State Board of Education encourages nominations from various individuals, including students, community members, educators, and administrators. However, it is important to note that applications must be submitted for the 2024 Those Who Excel and Teacher of the Year awards. These applications should include letters of recommendation, essays, and other relevant information.
The deadline for applications is October 15, 2023, and the awardees will be announced in January 2024. To be eligible for the Teacher of the Year Cohort Award Consideration, individuals must teach in an Illinois school for at least half of the school day and be prepared to hold a teaching position in Illinois during the school year. Those who have been selected for the Teacher of the Year Cohort after 2019 are not eligible for nomination.
The Teacher of the Year Cohort includes several categories, such as Illinois Teachers of the Year, Regional Teachers of the Year, Specialized Teachers of the Year, Award of Special Recognition, Award of Meritorious Service, and Award of Excellence. It is a great opportunity to recognize and celebrate the remarkable educators in Illinois who have made a significant impact on their students and communities.
