This week, Rep. Mike Marron (R-Danville) announced that he will seek another term in the Illinois House of Representative.
Marron announced the decision in a statement on his campaign website. In that statement, he said, “It is a dream come true to serve the people of Vermilion and Champaign County in Springfield. I am very humbled they have elected me twice to serve their interests. Unfortunately, the way things work in Springfield, elected representatives arrive with an agenda to breed division and fight good policy.”
Marron serves on several committees in the House, including Energy & Environment, House Higher Education, Housing, Police & Fire, Transportation: Regulation, Roads, & Bridges, Counties & Townships, House Human Services, and Economic Opportunity & Equity.
Marron is a small business owner and operates a family farm with his father in rural Vermilion County. He served as the Chairman of the Vermilion County Board, where he was responsible for managing and administering the daily operations of Vermilion County’s $40 million annual budget. Previously, he represented District 2, and then served as vice chair of the Vermilion County Board. He also previously served as supervisor of Pilot Township. He was also a member of Gov. Bruce Rauner's transition team, focusing on agricultural issues.
Marron has been outspoken about a number of issues. Recently, when asked about people's reluctance to get vaccinated against COVID, he said people have a lack of faith in the government. "There is no easy solution, no short-term solution to this at this point, it will be about rebuilding the trust in government."
