City of Hoopeston Historic Preservation Commission Historical Sub-Committee met March 3

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

I. Meeting was called to order at 6:06pm at the Little Lorraine Theatre, 216 East Main St. 

II. Roll Call – 2 members present: Chairperson Kristy Kelnhofer, Secretary Marta Pierce. 4 guests in attendance and 1 guest by phone.

III. Historical Events: - Downtown Walking History Tour –Tom & Marilyn will present on April 26th & May 3rd at 10:30am & 1pm and on June 21st at 5:30pm. June 25th is tentative and will be added only if the other dates are “sold out”. Each tour will be limited to 20- 25 people and Tom would like for it to be more interactive. Maybe less stops to for attendees to ask questions or if they have comments to make. The Hoopeston Public Library will sponsor this event. There will be no information handed out or a fee charge to attendees on the request of HPL. Donations can be accepted if someone from HPC will be available to accept the money. Historic Church Tour – Wednesday, June 30th, Judy Doeden not in attendance. History Displays –Nora Gholson has contacted the Hoopeston Post Office. Julie will set out postal cart and other items used in the beginning of the postal service. Chronicle windows available for displays. Ask the sports store to display sports items from Hoopestonites like Frank Gustine. Paige Brown, at a previous subcommittee event meeting, stated she could get antique farm items. Kristy has a friend with Harris Bottling Company items. Members need to reach out to find available items and businesses willing to display. Cemetery Walking Tour: Dates are set for June 5th, 10:30am -Settlers & Founders. The 3pm tour-Patriots & Military. On June 12th, tour at 10am will cover Women of Hoopeston and at 3pm, Stories and Lore of Hoopestonites. Each tour will be 1hour to 1hr 15 minutes. We will set out an honor jar for people who would like to donate. Jerry brought up the idea of having a video done of each tour. It could be posted for people to watch or make into DVD’s for people to purchase. Kristy asked him to check into this and see if the school has a student that would be interested in this project. Then & Now Booklet: Marilyn is working on gathering the photos of 20-25 Hoopeston sites. She is willing to put this together but is not interested in adding other items or history information other than the history of the photos she will use in booklet.

IV. Kristy announced next Historical Sub-Committee meeting will be March 18th at 6pm, Little Lorraine 216 E Main Street. Meeting was adjourned at 6:59pm.
