City of Hoopeston Historic Preservation Commission met Nov. 24

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

I. Meeting was called to order at 6:58pm

II. Roll Call - 6 members present: Brad Hardcastle, Debbie Benjamin, Ellen Scharlach, Jeanette Andre’, Kristy Kelnhofer & Marta Pierce. 1 guest in attendance.

III. Motion to approve minutes made by Jeanette Andre’, a second by Kristy Kelnhofer.

IV. Committee Reports:

A) Events: Jeanette proposed a schedule of events with daily themes: Sunday-Family Day, Mon.-Ag Day, Tues.-Youth Day, Wed.-Men’s Day, Thurs.-Ladies Day, Fri.-Taste of Hoopeston

B) Fundraising: Rough draft of solicitation letter. Will finalize ASAP. Need to raise some immediate funds. Motioned for a Christmas Dinner Food Basket Raffle. Brad will print the raffle tickets. Marta will apply for the raffle permit needed by the city. Ellen will contact IGA to see if they will donate a turkey or ham and the rest of the commission will donate other food items for the basket. Tickets -$5 each or 5 for $20. Draw for winner on December 18th. Debbie volunteered to deliver tickets if someone buys and does not want to get out.

C) Volunteers: List is started. Posted info on FB.

D) Historical: Formed a committee, they will meet after the first of the year. Ideas being discussed: church walk, photo display, Floral Hill tour.

E) July 3rd Events: Will be contacting bands/food truck vendors after the Thanksgiving holiday to get prices and see who is available on this date.

F) Marketing: Waiting on logo selection. Discussed types of items to possibly sell.

G) Executive: Reminder, deadline for logo contest is December 1st. A Facebook page has been established under Hoopeston Sesquicentennial, please like & share the page & posts.

V. Unfinished Business: Received our first entry for the logo contest.

VI. New business: Civic Center and Girl Scout House has been marked off for the dates of June 27th – July 3rd, 2021. Next meeting, December 8, 2020 at 7pm.

VII. Public Comment: Colin Carswell introduced himself to the group.

VIII. Adjourn: At 7:56pm, a motion to adjourn was made by Debbie Benjamin with a second from Ellen Scharlach.
