ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 102: Rep. Halbrook: Funds Available to Enhance Roadway, Railroad Crossing Safety

102

Illinois State House District 102 issued the following announcement on Dec. 13

State Representative Brad Halbrook today encouraged local officials to take advantage of new opportunities to secure state and federal funding to help with improvements to make roadways and railroad crossings in our region safer.

Rep. Halbrook says local officials can apply for a portion of $3 million in federal funding to help build the capacity of local governments to use innovative data tools and information to enhance roadway safety. Each successful applicant may receive a funding award of $250,000 to $500,000.

Local officials can also apply for funding for needed railroad crossing improvements through the FY 2021- FY 2022 Rail-Highway Grade Crossing Safety Program. Improvements eligible for funding assistance include railroad crossing warning devices, and improvements to railroad crossing approaches.

“This is a great opportunity to bring our federal and state tax dollars back home to improve safety on our local roads,” Rep. Halbrook said. “I strongly encourage local mayors, road commissioners, township road supervisors and other local officials to apply for grants to fund safety projects in their community.”

Rep. Halbrook noted that applications for the roadway data improvement grants need to be submitted by January 17th. Applications for railroad crossing safety grants are due by January 30th.

For information on how to apply for either grant, please contact Rep. Halbrook’s office at 774-1306.
