Former state university employee Deterding paid in $211K to pension fund, could collect $5.05M in retirement

Former state university employee Robyn Deterding, who retired in June 2017, saved $210,509 toward a pension over 36 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Deterding would collect as much as $5.05 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chambana Sun.

The projection assumes Deterding received $106,164 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Deterding will have already received $215,513 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
