Statewide test results: 80 percent of North Ridge failed English language arts

Scores14

About 20 percent of North Ridge Middle School students passed annual English language arts assessments in 2018 and 80 percent of students failed, according to a Chambana Sun analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.

According to North Ridge Middle School English language scores, about 17 percent met expectations and 3 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.

Another 25 percent approached expectations, while 29 percent partially met expectations and 27 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at North Ridge Middle School, which enrolled 785 students in 2018, fell below state averages.

Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only six percent 'exceeded' expectations.
