Gov. Bruce Rauner, a Republican, is seeking re-election.
The Champaign News-Gazette has put its support behind re-electing Gov. Bruce Rauner in November.
“This state must change, and much of Rauner's prescription for curing what ails Illinois would make things better,” an editorial stated.
“...Rauner has enjoyed some successes, the most notable being a rewrite of the state's complicated school-aid formula and the initiation of a private-school tuition scholarship program,” the editorial board wrote.
“His administration has put in place regulatory reforms that make it easier and more efficient for people to deal with state government. He's expanded early-childhood education and promoted criminal-justice reforms, fervently embraced by Democrats, aimed at reducing recidivism and cutting the state's prison population.”
The publication also stated that Democratic candidate J.B. Pritzker’s platform was made up of “simply more of the same policies that created the mess Illinois is facing.
“Pritzker's policy proposals will make a bad situation considerably worse — higher taxes, dramatic spending increases and an even-more-poisonous climate for job creation,” the newspaper wrote.
The News-Gazette released its endorsement on Oct. 3.
