Rantoul City School District 137 students suspended, expelled 130 times in a single school year

Rantoul City School District 137 reported one expulsions and 129 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 130 students during the year. That equates to 7.8 percent of the 1,674 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for one incident with a dangerous firearm weapon.

Of the 24 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes 22 incidents. There were two incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 24 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 105 out-of-school suspensions, 75 were given to boys and 30 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes 91 incidents. There were 12 incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 55 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
