Hoopeston City Fire Committee met March 27.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

I. Meeting was called to order at 6 pm Tuesday, March 27, 2018. In attendance were Mayor Bill Crusinberry, Committee Chair Carl Ankenbrand along with Alderman Chad Yaden, Fire Chief Joel Bird, and Troy Stevens.

II. Fire Budget was discussed. Department still needs air bottle replacement, ten per year for five years. There has been two years of replacement already. Air pacs are obsolete but can still be used until they go out. After 2020, the department will start replacing gear. By 2024 13 sets will expire.

This FY 2018, Truck 5 (1997 model) had the tires replaced because of a steer tire blowout along with the brakes and rear leaf springs. Replaced Arial Trucks steer tires. The Fire Department has seven trucks in total.

III. The Fire Ordinance concerning burning/training in old abandoned houses was discussed. Chief Joel Bird will place information in Alderman’s boxes to get feedback.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
