Republican Mike Marron of Fithian will be squaring off against Democrat Cynthia Cunningham of St. Joseph in November for the 104th District seat being vacated by Rep. Chad Hays (R-Catlin).
Marron announced his intention to run in July on his family farm in Vermilion County. He currently serves as Vermilion County Board chairman and is the former vice chairman of the Illinois Soybean Association.
Marron wants to improve Illinois by focusing on agriculture, developing technology to boost the industry and transparency.

"I believe in transparency and implemented the opengov.com system that shows visitors exactly where their tax money is going," Marron wrote on his campaign website.
Cunningham says her life's trajectory has led her to pursue public service. Growing up, she learned about the virtue of helping others by "volunteering in the special education classroom in her school, reading to fellow students after her class work was done," according to her campaign website.
Cunningham wants to keep seniors out of nursing homes because of the problems caused by the budget impasse. She is also an advocate for fair treatment of labor unions by the state and for a progressive income tax.
