Report: District 193 receives $379 per student from feds

Rantoul Township High School District 193 received $379 per student from the federal government in 2015, or approximately $439,000, according to data published by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

The $439,000 equals approximately 4.1 percent of District 193's total budget. The state average for federal funding of public school districts is 8 percent, according to ISBE.

The Obama administration is threatening to pull federal funding of local schools that refuse to follow Washington's directives. Most recently, it ordered all public schools to allow transgender students to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity.

Chicago Public Schools gets 16 percent of its funding from the federal government, or twice the state average. Chicago property taxpayers pay for only 49 percent of their school bill; District 193 pays for 66.8 percent.

District 193 spent a total of $9,240 per student in 2015.

Among Champaign school districts, Urbana SD 116 ($1,584 per pupil) and Fisher CUSD 1 ($582 per pupil) receive more money from the federal government than District 193.

St Joseph Ogden CHSD 305 ($91 per pupil) receives less.

Champaign Community Unified School District 4 spends the most money on public schools in Champaign, at $13,038 per pupil.
