On April 17, 2024, the Equity and Engagement Department staff presented at Keller Williams Real Estate to discuss the City’s Human Rights Ordinance and its implications for fair housing. Community Relations Manager, Janel Gomez, provided an overview of the department's work before delving into specific details. She highlighted the protected classes within the City, recent state-level updates, and the broader concept of fair housing.
In the workshop, department intern, Tamara Trejo, focused on reviewing the federal Americans for Disabilities Act and the importance of reasonable accommodations in ensuring equitable housing opportunities. The session also delved into real-world citizen complaint cases, offering insights on how to effectively address and navigate such issues.
More than 25 real estate staff participated in the workshop and expressed a keen interest in further workshops from the department, indicating a strong desire to enhance their understanding of fair housing practices.
