The Urbana Committee of the Whole will meet tonight at the Urbana City Building to consider two proposed ordinances that would drastically reduce the penalties for possession of cannabis.
Council members Aaron Ammons and Eric Jakobsson will present an ordinance that would lower the fine from $300 to $5. Urbana Mayor Laurel Prussing will present a similar ordinance that would lower the fine from $300 to $100.
The committee will also review an ordinance that would reduce the fine for underage alcohol use from $300 to $100.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at 400 S. Vine St.
