Savoy board unanimously approves tax levy

The Savoy Village Board unanimously approved the village's tax levy at its Dec. 16 meeting.

The levy, a 9 percent increase, will cover street lighting, road maintenance, and support the overall growth of the village, trustees said.

The board also approved a new development at 209 N. Dunlap Ave, following a public hearing on the project. Donald Atkins echoed concerns expressed at previous meetings about the site's effect on drainage in the area. Atkins also said he was concerned the development wouldn't aesthetically match the rest of the neighborhood.

Developer Scott Garth did not address the drainage question but said the development will be an attractive combination of brick and stucco with minimal lighting, minimal signage, and heavy equipment like air conditioners hidden behind buildings.

The board also approved the fire department's purchase request for four thermal-imaging cameras from Paul Conway Fire for $40,000, and approved the reappointment of Robert Bash, Larry Kienzler, William McNamara, and Josh Young to their positions on the Plan Commission.
