Champaign Police responded to a shooting in the 2500 block of W. Springfield Avenue at 3:04 a.m. on August 24, 2025, after receiving several reports of gunfire and injuries. Upon arrival, officers found a 35-year-old man from Urbana who was unconscious and not breathing due to multiple gunshot wounds. Officers provided lifesaving aid until the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

According to the initial investigation, the victim was in a parking lot when two individuals approached and shot him multiple times before fleeing. Police later found the suspects’ vehicle in the 2000 block of Moreland Boulevard. During their investigation, authorities arrested Tyson Moore, 32, of Champaign, and Deandre Newbill, 37, of Urbana. Two firearms were recovered as part of the case. Both men have been charged initially with First-Degree Murder.

The investigation is ongoing as police continue searching for witnesses and video evidence from nearby residents or businesses that may have relevant surveillance footage. The department thanked both the Metro SWAT Team and Street Crimes Task Force for assisting in the case.
