On August 14, 2025, the Timberline Valley South Homeowners Association (HOA) finished removing several docks from its common areas. The docks were in poor condition and had become obstacles to shoreline repair work along the detention basins managed by the HOA.
The removal project is part of ongoing efforts to maintain detention basins within HOA boundaries. Proper maintenance of these basins is important for managing water runoff and reducing the risk of localized flooding.
Funding for the dock removal was partially provided by the City of Champaign’s small grant program, which helps cover costs for neighborhood improvement projects.
According to a statement from the Timberline Valley South HOA, “The docks were not only unsightly, but they hindered the repair of eroded shoreline along the HOA’s detention basins. HOAs are responsible for the maintenance of detention basins located within their bounds to ensure proper water runoff and prevent localized flooding. The City’s small grant program provided funds to help cover the cost of razing the docks.”
