Two teenagers from Champaign have been taken into custody following a shooting incident on July 15, 2025, which resulted in injuries to a 14-year-old. The Champaign Police responded at 5:01 p.m. to the scene on the 1100 block of N. Third Street after receiving reports of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers found the young male victim suffering from multiple potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds. Immediate medical assistance was provided by the police and the Champaign Fire Department before transporting him to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

The investigation revealed that the victim was in an outdoor common area of an apartment complex when several individuals approached and began firing. The assailants fled after striking the victim multiple times. Evidence collected at the scene included numerous shell casings and building damage.

Authorities arrested two males overnight, aged 15 and 16, both residents of Champaign. Their identities remain undisclosed due to their ages. Two firearms were seized during this process.

Champaign Police stayed in the vicinity for hours conducting thorough investigations, gathering physical evidence, and seeking eyewitnesses or video footage.
