The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams participated in the first day of the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina. Junior Jessica McDowell achieved a personal best in the 400m race with a time of 52.33 seconds, placing seventh overall. Her performance is currently ranked as the 11th fastest in the nation.
Freshman Jordan Koskondy improved her weight throw mark to 20.41 meters, securing fourth place. This marks her third improvement this season. Her teammate, graduate student Amber Simpson, placed second with a throw of 21.54 meters.
Junior Tori Thomas continued her winning streak by claiming victory in the pole vault event with a clearance of 4.35 meters. Senior Tyler Sudduth finished second in the weight throw event with a toss measuring 22.97 meters.
In other events, freshman Elizabeth Ndudi placed second in the long jump with a leap of 6.40 meters, narrowly missing her personal best by two centimeters. Senior Robert Williams set a new personal record in the 400m race with a time of 47.67 seconds.
The Illinois track and field teams will continue their participation on Saturday for the final day of competition at the Tiger Paw Invitational.
