Illinois State House District 104 issued the following announcement on July 12

Currently, Illinois Lawmakers are allowed to draw their own district maps. Lawmakers use this power to draw gerrymandered boundaries. HJRCA 10 would remove the map-making authority from legislators and give it to a fair and independent commission.

According to a poll from the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute, 72 percent of Illinois residents, including a majority of both Republicans and Democrats, support the creating of an independent commission to draw legislative district maps.

Yes, I support independently drawn political maps to ensure voters pick their elected officials and not the other way around.
