Former state university employee Cole paid in $139K to pension fund, could collect $2.61M in retirement

Former state university employee Jennifer Cole, who retired in October 2016, saved $138,982 toward a pension over 25 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Cole would collect as much as $2.61 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chambana Sun.

The projection assumes Cole received $54,948 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Cole will have already received $169,838 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
