Garden Hills Elementary School gym classes are enjoying $4,000 worth of new equipment as a result of a recent Illinois Association Health Physical Education Recreation & Dance Program Enhancement grant.
The school used the grant money to buy hockey sticks, hockey nets, badminton rackets, badminton nets, fitness testing equipment, jump ropes, yoga mats, basketballs, footballs and soccer balls.
In exchange for the grant, physical education teacher Austin Myers will write about the impact of the funds for the association's journal, and will also make a presentation at the group's annual conference in November.
The Illinois Association Health Physical Education Recreation & Dance is a Jacksonville-based organization founded in 1931 that promotes health and wellness throughout Illinois.
