Farnsworth Group was honored Feb. 10 by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)-Illinois Chapter for its redesign of the Mahomet Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The facility needed an upgrade to accommodate the village's growing population and sewage output, and rather than rebuild the system with new and larger tanks, Farnsworth implemented a biological nutrient removal system that uses fixed film activated sludge technology to expand the processing capacity of the existing tanks.
The plan attracted ACEC honors for its level of engineering achievement, how well it met client needs, and its benefit to the public.
“We are very happy that the village was able to work cooperatively with Farnsworth Group to find a less costly solution to this issue," Village Administrator Patrick Brown said. "Our taxpayers are well-served to realize cost savings associated with re-using existing aeration tanks."
Farnsworth Group is a national engineering and architecture firm with offices in eight states.
