Customers at the Tractor Supply Co. store in Mt. Vernon contributed a state-best $1,180 during the company's recent fundraiser to support 4-H educational programming.

The campaign raised a total of more than $4,500 from 14 Tractor Supply Co. locations across the state. The runner-up location was in Princeton, with $538 dollars raised.

Each store's funds will go toward 4-H programs in the communities where the store is based.

Illinois 4-H leads youth education programs in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and healthy living and citizenship. In recent years the organization has ramped up its efforts to support STEM education, with goal of offering STEM-related programs to 1 million students.

Tractor Supply Co. is the largest outdoor lifestyle retailer in the U.S., with more than 1,450 stores in 49 states, a staff of 21,000, and annual revenues of $5.7 billion. The program is a collaborative effort with the University of Illinois Extension, a flagship outreach effort of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
