Seven Illinois football players named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society

Seven student-athletes from the University of Illinois Fighting Illini men’s football team were inducted into the National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society, according to an April 8 announcement. The honorees are Tanner Arkin, Hank Beatty, Josh Gesky, Aidan Laughery, Kenenna Odeluga, Miles Scott, and James Thompson Jr.

The NFF Hampshire Honor Society recognizes college football players across all NCAA divisions as well as NAIA and sprint football who have maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 throughout their college careers. The program is intended to encourage academic achievement among student-athletes at colleges and universities with football programs nationwide.

The class of 2026 includes a record number of 2,596 players from 365 colleges and universities. Since its founding in 2007, the honor society has recognized more than 23,000 student-athletes from nearly 700 schools. Members must be nominated by their respective institutions and meet several criteria: they must be senior players graduating in spring or summer who completed their final season in 2025 or graduate transfers who earned a bachelor’s degree and competed in the same season; maintain at least a cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a four-point scale; and have been starters or significant contributors during the past season.

The University of Illinois Fighting Illini men’s football team features athletes from diverse backgrounds both within Illinois and other states while maintaining strong alumni support through the Fighting Illini Network according to the official website. The team also competes against Big Ten opponents as well as non-conference teams across multiple states according to the official website. In addition to athletic competition, they participate in community outreach initiatives such as youth camps in central Illinois according to the official website.

Home games for the team are played at Memorial Stadium in Champaign according to the official website, where they have received honors including All-Big Ten selections and bowl game appearances according to the official website. The program competes within the Big Ten Conference according to the official website.
