Oluwatomilayo Akintunde was recognized as Scholar Athlete of the Week by the University of Illinois Fighting Illini women’s track and field program on Apr. 9, following her performance at the Florida Relays on April 4 at James G. Pressly Stadium.
Akintunde, a graduate student from Hardyston, New Jersey, achieved the sixth-best shot put mark in program history during her outdoor season debut. She is majoring in Health Communication and is also pursuing a certificate in this field.
The university said Akintunde “consistently excels on and off the track, showing up for her teammates, serving her community, and leading by example.” The statement added: “Her drive to succeed is matched by her genuine desire to see those around her grow and achieve their best.”
