On August 16, 2025, residents and community organizations gathered at Oakwood Trace for a neighborhood clean-up and resource fair. The event was led by First Followers, who organized landscaping and building clean-up activities. Following the clean-up, a resource fair was held to provide support and refreshments to attendees in response to high temperatures.
Council Members Shauna Clayborn and Davion Williams participated in the event alongside Central High School SRO Brandon Walton from the Champaign Police Department. Representatives from HACC, RACES, members of the Equity and Engagement Department, and John Ruffin from Neighborhood Services also attended to offer assistance and resources. DREAAM distributed bookbags containing hygiene products for students returning to school.
Organizers said that despite a heat index nearing 110 degrees, both Oakwood Trace and Wesley Park saw strong participation. “Clean Up efforts are hosted to bring community connection and a sense of neighborhood pride and belonging and this one was a wonderful success!”
The event aimed to strengthen connections among residents while supporting families as they prepare for the new school year.
