Neighborhood Services staff Jennifer Carlson and Brittanie McMullen, along with Neighborhood Services Advisory Board Member Richard Weibl, attended the Feeding Champaign County Food Summit on Mar. 27. The event brought together community partners to discuss strategies for improving food access and strengthening coordination among local organizations.
The summit is significant because it aims to address hunger and improve long-term food security throughout Champaign County. Leaders from across the local food system collaborated on solutions to better serve residents in need.
Discussions at the summit focused on developing partnerships and coordinated actions that could help reduce food insecurity in the area. According to current estimates, about 28,000 people in Champaign County experience food insecurity, underlining the importance of these efforts.
The participation of Neighborhood Services staff and board members highlights ongoing commitment by city officials to work alongside other organizations in tackling this issue.
As community leaders continue these conversations, they hope that improved collaboration will lead to more effective strategies for ensuring all residents have reliable access to nutritious food.
