Several neighborhood groups in Champaign organized events for National Night Out, which is held annually on the first Tuesday in August to encourage partnerships between police and the community, as well as strengthen neighborhood relationships.
The United Garden Hills Neighborhood Association hosted a super-hero themed gathering at Garden Hills Park, offering food and games. The Ridgewood South Neighborhood Association brought neighbors together at Johnston Park with games, food, and fellowship. Timberline Valley South HOA arranged an ice cream social in one of its common areas.
Registered neighborhood groups can apply for a one-time grant of up to $500 to help pay for National Night Out event expenses.
“Night Out is celebrated annually on the first Tuesday in August to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Registered neighborhood groups are able to apply for a special one-time small grant up to $500 to cover costs of the National Night Out events.”
