Micaela Booth, a sophomore infielder for the University of Illinois Fighting Illini Women’s Softball team, shared on Mar. 11 her thoughts as the team prepares for its first conference game of the season at Eichelberger Field.

Booth said the team has just completed its pre-season games and is now focused on preparing for the upcoming matchup against Iowa. She encouraged fans to attend and support the team at their home field in Urbana, Illinois. “We’re ready to hit the lab hard this week to get ready for our first conference game this Friday at Eichelberger! No better place than home, right? We play Iowa, and we would love to have you there and loud,” Booth said.

The University of Illinois Fighting Illini Women’s Softball program participates in intercollegiate competitions as part of the Big Ten Conference at the NCAA Division I level, according to the official website. The team’s home games are held in Urbana, Illinois, where they compete under the nickname Fighting Illini.

Booth described her experience with her teammates as rewarding and expressed excitement about continuing to grow together. “Getting to grow as a player with a group of girls like these has been so exciting and eye-opening, and working with them is so rewarding. I think I can speak for everyone- We’re excited to pick up a few dubs this weekend! Can’t wait to see y’all out there this weekend!” she said.

The Fighting Illini Women’s Softball program continues its focus on intercollegiate competition within one of college athletics’ major conferences. As Booth noted, support from fans remains important as they begin their conference schedule.
