The Main Street Viaduct in Champaign will be temporarily closed to pedestrian traffic starting on July 3, 2025. Pedestrians who need to travel between First Street and Chestnut Street/Main Street are advised to use the sidewalk along University Avenue as an alternative route.

“The City of Champaign appreciates the cooperation of travelers through this area,” stated city officials.

This closure is part of efforts by the city’s Public Works Department to ensure safety and manage construction effectively. Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly during this period.
