The University of Illinois women’s golf team, ranked 53rd in NCAA Division I, will return to competition at the Florida State Match Up from March 20-22 in Tallahassee, Florida. The event will be held at Seminole Legacy Golf Club, with rounds beginning each day between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. Central Time.
This tournament is significant for the Fighting Illini as it provides an opportunity to compete against several nationally ranked teams and continue their spring season. The field includes No. 28 Eastern Michigan, No. 35 Virginia, No. 54 Tulsa, No. 55 Alabama, Mercer, Troy, Sam Houston, FIU, Murray State, North Florida, and host Florida State.
The three-day event will use a five-count-four format over 54 holes on a par-72 course measuring 6,240 yards. The course was originally designed by Bill Amick and opened in 1962 before undergoing a comprehensive renovation led by Nicklaus Design that left only one original hole intact.
Illinois’ lineup features Anna Ritter, Victoria Zheng, Brielle Mapanao, Alexis Myers, and Erica Lee. Kylie Eaton will compete as an individual. Last season at this event, Illinois finished second out of thirteen teams with Lexanne Halama tying for fifth place and Zheng tying for seventh after recording eleven birdies across the tournament’s three rounds. Ritter and Lee both tied for eleventh place; Lee competed as an individual while Mapanao finished tied for fifty-ninth.
