The University of Illinois announced on May 5 that its track and field teams will conclude the regular season with the Illini Tune-Up on Friday, May 8 at Demirjian Park in Champaign. Field events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., followed by track events at 1 p.m. Central Time.
This event serves as a preparation for next week’s Big Ten Championships and marks the last home meet of the season for Illinois. The team enters the competition following notable performances at the Gary Wieneke Memorial, where athletes achieved three top-10 program marks and multiple event victories.
Katharina Graman led recent achievements by winning the long jump with a mark of 6.39 meters, which is fifth-best in program history. Gator Young won the men’s pole vault with a clearance of 5.34 meters, ranking seventh all-time for Illinois, while Trey Sato recorded a time of 3:42.18 in the men’s 1500 meters, placing him eighth in school history.
Additional highlights included Jonathan Kapitolnik’s high jump victory during his home debut with a height of 2.15 meters, Kennedy Ocansey’s second-place finish in that event, Emma Haeggblom’s win in women’s high jump at 1.80 meters, and Luuk Pelkmans’ victory in men’s long jump at 7.42 meters. The meet concluded with Illinois winning the decathlon 4×400 meter relay.
The Illini Tune-Up will also feature senior day festivities honoring seventeen student-athletes from both men’s and women’s teams.
