This matchup marks the conclusion of Illinois’ nine-game homestand and comes as the team seeks its first Big Ten win of the season.
The contest is notable for both teams as Illinois aims to improve its current record of 8-23 overall and 0-6 in conference play, while Northern Iowa enters with a record of 14-12. Junior Adisyn Caryl leads her team across several offensive categories including batting average (.363), runs (17), hits (33), RBI (22), total bases (49), walks (12), multi-hit games (12), and multi-RBI games (6). Outfielder Skylar Brennan has recorded eight doubles this year—twice as many as any other teammate—and holds an on-base percentage of .417.
Northern Iowa recently secured a series win over Valparaiso behind strong offensive performances from Skylar Benesh and Kate Lappe, who each have ten home runs this season. Pitcher Anna Wischnowski leads their staff with more than double the innings pitched compared to teammates.
The all-time series between Illinois and Northern Iowa is tied at two wins apiece. Previous meetings have been split between extra-inning contests and run-rule decisions; last year’s matchups saw multiple Illini players notch multi-hit games.
