The University of Illinois announced on April 5 that the scheduled Sunday softball game between the Fighting Illini and Michigan State in East Lansing was canceled because of cold weather and unplayable field conditions caused by heavy rain. The university said the contest will not be rescheduled.

This cancellation affects both teams’ regular season schedules and means fans will miss an anticipated matchup. The University of Illinois Fighting Illini Women’s Softball program participates in intercollegiate competitions as part of the Big Ten Conference at the NCAA Division I level, according to the official website.

Following this change, Illinois is set to return home for a five-game homestand. The team will host Western Illinois on Tuesday, April 7, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. Central Time during Wii Sports Night. Later in the week, they are scheduled for a three-game series against No. 10 UCLA from April 10-12 during Strikeout Cancer Weekend. All upcoming home games can be streamed on B1G+.

The Fighting Illini play their home games in Urbana, Illinois, as reported by the official website. The nickname “Fighting Illini” represents all University of Illinois athletics teams.

The women’s softball program focuses on NCAA Division I intercollegiate competition within the Big Ten Conference framework according to information provided by the university’s official site.
